APPLICATION PROCESS

The Department of Pathology at the University of Arizona is a participating program in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), eliminating the need for hard copies of applications. Because of the volume of applications received each year, only applications submitted through ERAS will be considered for a residency position in the match. Information on ERAS is available in the Dean's office at your medical school, or on the ERAS web site at www.aamc.org/eras/.  All applications must be received by December 31, 2008.

The following are some criteria used in the evaluation of all candidates for our residency program:

  • Evidence of commitment to pathology as a discipline
  • ERAS Common Application Form (CAF)
  • Personal Statement
  • Official Medical School Transcripts
  • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (Dean's Letter)
  • USMLE Steps 1 and 2 scores (Step 2 is not required for interview) above 200 (80) on the first attempt
  • Three letters of recommendation from pathologists and clinicians who can address your performance and your commitment to the study of pathology
  • High quality of medical school training
  • Clinical practice in the United States is not required.
  • Personal interview

We do not discriminate on the basis of age (years out of medical school), gender, religious preference, or country of origin.
